The two teams competing in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game are set, and they are exactly who we thought they’d be. SEC East Division Champ Vanderbilt will play SEC West Division Champ LSU for the right to be called SEC Champion.
Looking at the box score in Saturday’s first semifinal game, you’d think they brought back the old bats. Vandy scored 7 runs in the 2nd on their way to a 16-8 final over Mississippi State. The two teams combined for 24 runs on 33 hits.
But while the first game featured a plethora of hits, the second game provided the exactly opposite, as five LSU pitchers threw a combined one-hitter en route to a 3-1 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks. Although Arkansas scored first by putting up one run in the third, LSU responded immediately, plating two in the bottom of the frame. They’d add one more in the seventh inning.
So Sunday’s SEC Championship game will pit the two best teams in the nation against one another. We couldn’t ask for a better game.
